Stop these 3 things if you want to release weight (or simply find peace with your body & food)
Feb 23, 2025
Let me start by saying this: I am not promoting weight loss as a goal, nor do I believe your body is better if you lose weight.
Not at all!
In fact, I deeply believe that your body is an incredible, powerful animal, regardless of size, shape, or appearance. You are already whole, already worthy, exactly as you are!!!
I actually felt weird when I wrote the above subject line.
But, I know that many of my clients and readers feel a desire to lose weight.
And I want to be clear: I’m not here to tell you what your body should look like.
- I’m here to help you connect with your body in a way that supports whatever you truly want, whether that’s:
Accepting and loving your body as it is - Releasing weight in a way that feels natural and nourishing (and this is a tricky one; this will be addressed in point nr. 1)
- Ending emotional eating and food struggles
- Finding more peace, ease, and trust in your body
No matter what your goal is, these three shifts are crucial to breaking free from frustration, shame, and self-sabotage.
Here we go:
Nr. 1: Stop focusing on your weight (I know! Isn’t that counterintuitive?)
It seems logical to focus on the number on the scale.
But when weight becomes the sole goal, it creates stress and frustration; which actually makes it harder to release weight.
Here’s why:
* Stress slows your metabolism. Your body perceives stress (especially from obsessing over weight) as a threat, shifting into survival mode.
* Frustration fuels emotional eating.
When the scale doesn’t move, it’s easy to think, What’s the point?; leading to binge cycles.
Furthermore, the stress and frustration creates more overwhelm inside of your nervous system which leads to reaching for food to numb (I will go deeper into this in my upcoming workshop)
Weight is a reflection, not a cause.
Instead of forcing a number change, shift your focus to your nervous system, rhythms, and well-being.
When you focus on feeling good in your body, weight shifts naturally without force.
Nr.2: Stop all-or-nothing thinking
Perfectionism tells you that if you’re not “doing everything right,” you’re failing.
But this mindset is what keeps you stuck.
Instead of focusing on what you "should" do, try this:
* Get curious, not judgmental. If you ate more than you planned, ask: What happened? What was going on in your body and mind?
* Count your successes. No moment is too small; each time you pause, breathe, or make a supportive choice, it matters.
Micro-moments of presence are where real transformation happens. No perfection is required.
Nr. 3: Stop being hard on yourself
Shame doesn’t create change; it creates stress, self-sabotage, and binge eating.
* Your body stores stress. When you’re harsh with yourself, your body tenses, your nervous system dysregulates, and cravings increase.
* Shame spirals keep you stuck. Harsh self-talk doesn’t inspire better choices; it shuts you down. and eventually you will give up.
- Instead, practice self-awareness and self-compassion:
Befriend your nervous system. Pause and notice: Am I in fight, flight, freeze, or flow? - Notice sensations: Hold yourself gently, notice sensations, and regulate before reacting.
- Notice your thoughts. What’s the quality of your self-talk? Would you say this to a friend?
- Celebrate micro-successes. Gratitude rewires the brain and shifts energy toward progress.
Your body thrives in safety, not shame!
The more you support yourself, the more your body trusts... and the easier it becomes to break free.
I know this is easier said than done, but it is a great start to understanding the bigger picture.
You don’t need more control; you need connection.
Your body has its own rhythm, and the key to releasing weight isn’t pushing harder. It’s about working with your body, not against it.
- Small shifts add up. Focus on micro-moments of presence rather than waiting for big transformations.
- Your body is wise. Instead of seeing setbacks as failure, ask: What is my body telling me?
- Ease creates momentum. The less stress and pressure you put on yourself, the more naturally your body responds.
When you stop trying to force weight loss and start creating inner balance, your body can finally do what it was designed to do: thrive.
So.. are you ready for true change?
It's time you finally feel lighter, more confident and step into your power!
